Tilda featured in AnOther Magazine
Tilda Swinton is one of the finest polymath’s around: she is an accomplished actress both on screen (as Karen Crowder in Michael Clayton and Emma Recchi in I Am Love) and on stage, a stunning model (starring in Pringle of Scotland’s recent campaigns) and in our A/W 04 issue of AnOther a compelling writer, editing the Document. In that issue she paid homage to personal writings, poignantly choosing contributors who “configure a hairnet of correspondence/correspondents” in her life, with whom she regularly exchanges letters – a form of “invaluable intimacy”. Pringe Of Scotland goes strong
Pringe of Scotland’s relationship with muse Tilda Swinton is stronger than ever – the label would love to have the actress for another season. “I hope we can have her forever. Today we see so many of the same faces and the same look and lots of labels use a girl who doesn’t necessarily represent their customer base,” says ceo Mary-Adair Macaire. “Tilda is a real person who could be anything. You can see her character in her face. She is unique in every way.” So what is it exactly about Tilda that makes her the perfect muse? “With Tilda it was so easy as the right decisions always are,” Macaire tells is. “She is utterly timeless – she doesn’t look any age. She doesn’t look like a man or a woman. She’s fun too and willing to do anything. She reminds me of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando.” Source: Vogue
8½ Foundation website
Following the initial launch of the brainchild of Tilda Swinton and Mark Cousins, the 8½ Foundation, during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the initiative has gone global with the launch of their website. In a heroic attempt to wean youngsters off a staple diet of Disney and Pixar, the inimitable Tilda Swinton and film critic Mark Cousins have spearheaded a campaign to convert youngsters to world and alternative cinema. Supported by Creative Scotland’s National Lottery Inspire Fund, the full manifesto of this quirky not-for-profit organisation can be viewed for the first time online. It advocates a special celebration of every child’s 8½ birthday to encourage awareness of the virtues of cinema which, according to the dynamic duo who danced their way into public awareness in June, is the opportunity it gives anyone to see life from another person’s perspective. Tilda’s family history is to be displayed in the Capital as part of the Famous Scots exhibitions in the ScotlandsPeople Centre on Saturday, 24th of October. There will be a special opportunity to find out about her Edinburgh connections. Research revealed that Tilda is a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce on both sides of her family, and among her ancestors on her mother’s side are some famous figures from Edinburgh’s past. These include her maternal great-great-grandfather, John Hutton Balfour (1808-1884), a professor of botany and keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, as well as geologist James Hutton (1726-1797), whose influential theories on the origins of the Earth laid the foundations for modern geology. And her great-grandfather was George Campbell Swinton, Lord Lyon King of Arms (1859-1937) and the driving force behind the creation of the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle. Tilda, who lives in Nairn but was born in London and partly raised in Germany, is the daughter of Sir John Swinton, a former British army officer, who can trace his ancestors back to Robert II, the grandson of Robert the Bruce.

It was announced in Paris today that 20 films will compete for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. This time there were no slot for Jim Jarmusch’s “Limits Of Control”. It’s the first time one of Jarmusch’s straight feature films hasn’t been selected for Cannes since his debut ‘Permanent Vacation’ in 1980. But “Limits of Controls” is being released theatrically in the USA at the start of May, so that timing might have kept it out of the festival.

A few snags from around the net about Tilda:
… Clayton’s unstable mentor Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson) seemingly goes off his meds while working on a high-profile defence with attorney Karen Crowder (Tilda Swinton), he’s forced into damage control. Pressures mount in Clayton’s personal and professional lives when he discovers that his crazy friend may not have been as crazy as once thought.
Tom Wilkinson and Sydney Pollack are excellent as Clayton’s mentor and boss, respectively, and drive the majority of the plot. However, Tilda Swinton is the film’s standout. The closest thing to a villain in the film, Swinton also portrays the most complex character, awash in compromise and scrambling to survive.

Academy Awards for acting could go to foreigners. There’s Irishman Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor, France’s Marion Cotillard or Brit Julie Christie for Best Actress, Bardem (a Spaniard) or Englishman Tom Wilkinson for Best Supporting Actor, and Aussie Cate Blanchett or Scot Tilda Swinton for Best Actress.

Let’s hope for the best! I wouldn’t mind seeing Tilda winning an Oscar, she does deserve it! Don’t you agree?
